OMERS hosts top Economists at 2026 Chief Economist Forum

In mid-September, OMERS played host to the 2026 Chief Economist Forum, where the top Economists from across the Maple 8 pension plans get together to discuss the economy, geopolitics and more. The event has been around for a decade, but for the first time, select sessions were opened up to colleagues from across OMERS; all spots were filled within the first day of registration.
These guests were able to hear expert insights on the Canadian economy and what to expect moving forward, live. Alongside multiple external guests were OMERS Chief Financial & Strategy Officer Jonathan Simmons; EVP, Economic Research Robert Lavigne and Board Chair George L. Cooke.
Topics ranged throughout the day, but one theme remained constant; the shared confidence in Canada’s long-term potential and the importance of continuing to invest in the country’s future.
