Total Portfolio Management plays a critical role in helping OMERS optimize the balance sheet over the medium term using a total portfolio approach. We lead the development of CIO strategies and medium-term asset allocation recommendations (building on the OMERS Strategy and long-term asset mix), we manage OMERS liquidity and funding, we trade in public markets, and we lead the development of sophisticated analytic capabilities including AI.

Portfolio Strategy
Leading the development and implementation of strategic initiatives that shape our portfolio design, investment approach, investment operating model, and total portfolio approach. We bring external insights and best practices into strategic decision making and collaborate across the organization, ensuring our work aligns with the OMERS Strategy and with OMERS long-term investment objectives.
Portfolio Analytics
Driving advanced insights through quantitative methods, Machine Learning, and AI to enable data-driven investment decision-making. We work to enhance operational efficiency and uncover relationships between our portfolio and market dynamics to identify new sources of alpha through predictive modeling. Working collaboratively with multiple teams, we are leading work to advance AI powered capabilities across the OMERS investing teams.
Trading
Serving as the conduit to global public markets by providing a trading function for investment teams focused on best execution. We provide actionable market insights and structuring advice, cultivate and maintain relationships with leading global financial institutions ensuring access to investment resources, and stay up to date with evolving tools and protocols, while simultaneously upholding rigorous operational controls to ensure an efficient and effective trading process.
Portfolio Construction
Building on the OMERS Board-approved long-term strategic asset mix, we develop detailed medium-term capital allocation recommendations for the OMERS balance sheet using a total portfolio approach. We set targets for key characteristics such as duration and foreign currency exposures, and we monitor investment outcomes to make timely adjustments to optimize performance and manage risk.
Liquidity Management
Managing liquidity and funding holistically to pay pensions, ensure resilience and investment flexibility. We develop funding strategies and optimize the use of financial leverage, such as recourse debt (through medium-term notes and commercial paper) and economic leverage (using equity derivatives, securities lending and repos). We support the management of strong banking relationships and manage the OMERS money market program.
