OMERS Governance Transition

OMERS governance structure is in transition following legislation passed by the Ontario government and informed by the 2024/2025 governance review as outlined below. As this transition progresses, we will continue to provide updates here.

With the unanimous recommendation of the OMERS Administration Corporation (AC) Board, the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing has reappointed George Cooke as Chair of the OMERS AC Board for a further three-year term, effective April 15, 2026.

In keeping with the Minister’s Order Ordering the wind-up of the OMERS Sponsors Corporation (SC), an administrator has been appointed to manage the wind-up of the SC with the oversight of the SC Board.

OMERS Governance Review

In 2024, Ontario’s Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing initiated a review of OMERS governance. This was the first review since 2012. Robert Poirier, the Special Advisor appointed to conducted the review, released his report on November 5, 2025. The Ontario government subsequently passed legislation that amends the OMERS Act, 2006.
