OMERS Student Design Network Video Transcript

The OMERS Student Design network is a new paid program at OMERS for undergraduate students.

The program builds a pool of student talent across a number of different art and design programs.

It seems like the place where I could get good experience in a work environment and that seems still value my education at the same time.

Well, I think this one's really people focused and really getting you to collaborate with as many people on the team as possible.

You're not just stuck doing one thing, there is tons of things that you can really take initiative on here at OMERS.

It's not like you're coming in and doing the same thing every single day. It never gets repetitive. And that's what's so amazing about it.

Other internships, that seem like jobs where they didn't really truly care about my education as much.

We gain their perspective and their off the presses knowledge of new design techniques, ways to approach content best practices and they gain access to working communications hands-on in a large organization.

You don't need to feel like you need to hide who you are.

You can just be yourself have fun and enjoy what you're doing everyday.

I find that being a small piece in the bigger puzzle is definitely an opportunity that you can get here at OMERS.

We also recognize that work opportunities and ways to earn money were either cut or canceled for many students across the province.

So for us that was the call to action.

So far I been helping the communications team with projects, that spanned the organization

so like organizational events, social media posts.

So I've done a lot of different event recaps.

It's really important at OMERS that were really looking at employee wellness and also member wellness.

To be able to able to be kinda like the director, being able to man the camera but also figure out what are some creative ways that I can, for say, figure out an interview.

At OMERS we believe so deeply in investing in future generations of talent. We learn so much from students just as much as they learn from us.

I'm so happy, I made the decision to kind of take that step for the interview.

And everyone here is very welcoming, there's so much diversity.

And it's a great program to learn and to advance yourself in whatever you're studying in.

If you come in apply here, you'll feel very welcomed, and I think that's the biggest thing is just being able to be yourself when you come and work.
