Brantford Public Library delivering books to those unable to visit

No one should be deprived of the opportunity to read what they want just because they’re not currently mobile. OMERS employer, the Brantford Public Library shares that sentiment, which is why they recently introduced a home delivery service for those unable to visit the library due to long-term illness, physical or visual disabilities, or mobility difficulties. The service goes beyond just private homes, delivering to long-term care facilities, nursing homes and retirement residences. This is part of an encouraging trend where OMERS employers have tailored services to those who may be unable to easily get around.

Once registered, the Library delivers materials to participants every four weeks. At the same time, they will pick up any Library materials that are ready to be returned. For those who want more flexibility with when they receive new Library materials, the Library’s Pickup service also means registered customers can have Library materials set aside at either Library location for a family member, friend, or caregiver to pick up for them.

Yet that’s not all. For both Home Delivery and Library Pickup services, Library staff can include selections based on the participant’s reading interests! For those who would like to manually make selections themselves, items can simply be requested through an online catalogue or by simply calling the Library.

And the service isn’t limited to just books. In fact, participants can order:

  • eBooks

  • Audiobooks

  • Digital magazines and newspapers

  • Movie streaming

  • Online learning and research tools

It’s a program put together with the entire community in mind, and it allows those unable to physically travel to the Library the opportunity to continue to enjoy its myriad benefits.
