Reminder: Offering OMERS membership to non-full-time employees
Employers must offer membership to those employees who have optional membership when they first become eligible and failure to do so can result in a costly omission period. Have you offered membership to all your eligible other-than-continuous full time (OTCFT) employees?
Membership should be offered within 60 days of year-end. If you have not already started, it is time to determine whether your OTCFT employees, who are not enrolled in the OMERS Plan, qualify (or will likely qualify) as of January 1, 2019.
For 2019, the eligibility test established by the Pension Benefits Act is based on earnings/hours for 2017 and 2018.
