OMERS podcast explores the future of retirement in Canada
Fourth season of The Pension Blueprint brings together leading voices on financial confidence, pension modernization and Canada's evolving retirement landscape
As Canadians face economic uncertainty and rethink what retirement can look like, OMERS has launched the fourth season of The Pension Blueprint. The podcast explores how longer lives, changing careers and evolving expectations are reshaping how we think about money and the future of retirement.
This season brings together voices from the pension sector, public service, academia and personal finance to examine what these changes mean for workers, retirees and future generations.
Hosted by OMERS Chief Pension Officer Celine Chiovitti, season four looks at how people experience money, work, retirement and purpose at different stages of life. The season explores financial literacy, pension modernization, workplace wellbeing, gender equity, public service careers and retirement. It also looks at how pension plans are adapting to better support current and future members.
The season launches with a conversation featuring OMERS President and CEO Blake Hutcheson, who shares his perspective on navigating economic uncertainty, making long-term decisions in a rapidly changing world and the enduring value of defined benefit pensions.
“People’s lives, careers and retirement journeys are changing,” said Ms. Chiovitti. “That makes it more important than ever to have clear, practical conversations about money, pensions and the future. This season explores the questions people are asking at every stage of life — from building financial confidence early in their careers to preparing for retirement and finding purpose after work. Our goal is to help members better understand their pension and feel more confident about the future they are building.”

The future of retirement – Longer lifespans, evolving career paths and shifting expectations are changing how people think about retirement. Guests explore how retirement is becoming more personal and flexible, with a growing focus on purpose, wellbeing and lifelong learning.
Building financial confidence at every stage of life – We examine how people make financial decisions, build healthy money habits and prepare for the future. Discussions cover saving and investing, behavioural science, financial literacy, women’s financial security and practical steps people can take to strengthen their long-term financial wellbeing.
Modernizing pensions for future generations – As member expectations continue to evolve, pension plans around the world are taking new approaches to service, education and engagement. Through conversations with leaders from Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom, the season explores how organizations are modernizing to better support current and future members.
Guests this season include personal finance experts Rob Carrick and Shannon Lee Simmons, OMERS AC Board Director Diane Kazarian, investigative journalist and author Moira Welsh, behavioural scientist Dr. Thomas Post, retirement researcher Dr. Michelle Silver, leaders from international pension organizations, public sector employers, and subject matter experts from across OMERS.
