We have some exciting transaction news that we wanted to share! This week, we announced the signing of our latest investment, into renewable energy firm Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) Australia. The investment will, after closing later this year, become our third in the country, alongside the Port of Melbourne and electricity transmission group Transgrid.
The news is part of our exciting strategy to expand into the Asia-Pacific region – you can learn more about this by reading a short blog post we shared on OMERS Community a few months ago.
As you may know, sustainable investing is also core to our global strategy, which is why this deal marks our third investment into companies that provide renewable energy, the other two being based in the US and India. Our investments in renewable energy will now be on three continents! FRV is doing some amazing work to harness the power of nature to democratize access to sustainable, clean energy. We're committed, together, to playing an active role in the ongoing world-wide energy transition.
A major Australia newspaper covered the announcement , which you can read here.
Christopher Curtain, Senior Managing Director in Asia-Pacific with our infrastructure arm, said of the news: “In alignment with our long-term strategy, OMERS looks forward to partnering with FRV to develop a multi-technology renewables platform across Australia. We are committed to leveraging our extensive experience as a leading global infrastructure investor and working collaboratively with FRV and the FRV Australian management team to further grow the platform”.
Well done, team, and welcome to the OMERS family, FRV Australia!
