Letter from Celine Chiovitti, Executive Vice President & Head of Pensions

We are celebrating Pride month at OMERS in support of the LGBTQ2SIA+ community. Of course, Pride month isn’t just about the parades and celebratory acts; it is a time to reflect on the real prejudices people in the community continue to face. These reflections shouldn’t just happen during one month of the year, but throughout it. We should continually ask ourselves how we can foster inclusivity and be allies to the community.
I am happy to share that Jonathan Simmons, OMERS Chief Financial and Strategy Officer, is being featured in our first-ever “Executive Spotlight” story. As an OMERS member and proud member of the LGBTQ2SIA+ community, Jonathan speaks candidly about the value of building a strong LGBTQ2SIA+ leadership pipeline at home, at work and in our communities.
Further in this issue, you’ll read more about the 2021 Social Value and Economic Contributions studies – which we commissioned through the Canadian Centre for Economic Analysis (CANCEA) – to advocate for you. The studies outline all the ways in which OMERS adds value to our members’ lives “beyond the cheque” and contributes to our province, economically. We firmly believe that the benefits of pension plans, including secure income for life, should be available to more people across our society.
At OMERS, we aim to be your most trusted partner in empowering you through your pension journey, from hire to retire and beyond. We do not take our jobs – as stewards of your pension – lightly. It continues to be an honour to serve you.
