The list of 50 winning workplaces was compiled by Aon Hewitt after reviewing employee engagement levels at more than 250 organizations and 134,000 employee survey responses. The ratings are based on employee feedback and the results were announced in Maclean's magazine on October 28. OMERS ranked 13th in Canada, up from 23rd last year, and was the only pension plan to be recognized.
OMERS is proud to be considered one of the country's best workplaces.
"Our employees are encouraged to develop their careers, take ownership of their decisions and have an impact on the company's success by sharing their creative ideas on how we can continue to improve as an organization," says Michael Nobrega, President and CEO of OMERS. "The result is that our employees have a track record of being highly engaged in delivering investment returns to the plan and exceptional service to plan members."
OMERS employees are also actively involved in their community. Strong support for the United Way resulted in record-breaking fundraising efforts in 2009, with employees raising more than $650,000. In June 2010, the company hosted Volunteer Days, where our employees contributed more than 2,000 volunteer hours at nine GTA charitable agencies. OMERS Worldwide is a national co-title sponsor of Free The Children's We Days, a national youth education program that inspires and develops the global leaders of tomorrow.
OMERS also received the distinction of 2010 Pension Fund of the Year, Canada from World Finance magazine. The award recognizes pension service excellence across multiple categories.
