Frederick Biro

Fred Biro was appointed to the OAC Board in September 2011. He is the Vice Chair of the Appeals Sub-Committee and also serves on the Member Services, Governance and Investment Committees.

Mr. Biro joined the Regional Municipality of Peel Police Services Board as Executive Director in January of 1991. He served concurrently as Executive Director of the Canadian Association of Police Boards from August 1993 until October 1996. In that role, he was responsible for the development and publication of an extensive report on the criteria necessary for effective board governance. This was followed by the development of an orientation package for new Board members offered on CD-ROM and more recently on the CAPB website.

Mr. Biro has worked in the private sector as a self-employed consultant and writer. He has extensive government experience, including serving as Senior Advisor, Director of Communications, and Press Secretary to a leader of the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party. From 2000 to October 2007 he was a member of the OMERS Board including a two-year term as Chair of the OMERS Board. In November 2007, he joined the Board of Associated British Ports, the largest port operator in the United Kingdom, resigning from that position in June 2011.

Mr. Biro has been a speaker and presenter at police and non-related police functions and has had articles appear in a number of publications. He is also the author of three published novels.
