Government benefits

You may be entitled to government survivor benefits, as well as children's benefits. You must apply for these benefits through the specific government agency. If you have questions about any of these benefits, please contact the agency directly. OMERS does not have information regarding these benefits.

You may be eligible for survivor benefits from the Canada Pension Plan (CPP) or the Quebec Pension Plan (QPP). CPP also offers one-time benefits to help cover funeral expenses (OMERS does not offer this benefit). Information about CPP and the Old Age Security program (OAS)Allowance for the survivor and Guaranteed Income Supplement.

You may be entitled to survivor benefits under War Veterans Allowances from Veterans Affairs Canada.

www.web.net/~ocsco Ontario Society (Coalition) of Senior Citizens' Organizations (OCSCO) is a community-based organization for improving the quality of life of seniors. It offers education, information, referral, counseling, outreach, support, self-help and volunteer programs.

www.hc-sc.gc.ca/seniors-aines This is the site for the Division of Aging and Seniors, Health Canada. It has information and a newsletter, Expression, published by the National Advisory Council on Aging.

www.seniors.gc.ca/index.jsp Seniors Canada On-line is a website for people 55+. It has information and links to seniors organizations and government websites, and a section about what to do after a death.
